Rutting

Rutting describes grooves that develop in the wheel tracks of a pavement. Rutting may result from consolidation or lateral movement under traffic in one or more underlying courses or displacement in the asphalt surface layer. They may develop under traffic in new asphalt pavements that had too little compaction during construction or from plastic movement in a mix that does not have enough stability to support traffic.
