In a recent year, fireworks killed 8 people and injured more than 12,000. Furthermore, they say that fireworks start an average of 18,000 fire per year. This includes 1,300 structure fires and 300 vehicle fires. Below are some easy safety tips for this months holiday.

  • Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol
  • Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eyewear
  • Never hold fireworks in your hand
  • Never light them indoors
  • Never throw or point fireworks at another person
  • Only light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting
  • Never ignite a device in a container
  • Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks
  • Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don’t go off, or light on fire
  • Never use fireworks when they are banned in your location
